RAYS

Each of these Rays has one thing in common. It’s not the fact they are all made of cartilage and not bone which makes them a close relative of sharks who are also made of cartilage.

It’s also not that their gill slits are located on their underside rather than their horizontal side.

It’s not even that their large wing like pectoral fins are fused directly to their heads. All of these happenings of nature make Rays unique among sea creatures.

But what makes them most unique is for the the third time since 2008 the baseball Rays are migrating north for the “Fall Classic”

On the blurb on the back cover of A Flicker in the Water, in the final sentence I made reference for the Tampa Bay Rays after coming close in 2020 getting to game six of the World Series finish the job and bring home the world series championship. Will 2026 be the year. I don’t know the only thing standing in their way now is a team of Beer Connoisseurs from Wisconsin.

All it may take for one team or the other to win the series is the team with the “Best Hops” 🌿 🍻

Here is what may need to happen for the Rays to prove victorious.

The Milwaukee Brewers are riding high after sweeping the mighty Dodgers in four games. During that series they looked as good as a baseball team can look.

Since then they have had a long layoff while the Rays have stayed sharp. It’s possible the long layoff could disrupt the momentum the Brewers were playing with creating a bit of a hangover effect. If the Rays can steal one of the first two games in Milwaukee before heading back south to Florida it could go a long way toward deciding the eventual champion.

Both of these teams play a similar style of baseball relying on pitching, speed, base running, & defense and varied offense which relies less on the long ball than most other teams.

Hopefully it will be a long compelling series ending with Happy Hour in Tampa.
